Splitting from their ancestor, the pestcell has adapted to become parasites of the rustmolds of their biomes. They thrive off of the waste of other organisms, breaking it down for the energy and nutrients needed. They are found in the soil or in the sand. They start out living in the waste of Quefts, using the it to fuel themselves temporarily. They use the energy to power the production of an enzyme that convert the waste of lithotrophs back into free iron oxide. This promotes the grown of lithotroph spores into the area, giving them their main diets of rust organisms. When the larger species release their spores, they do the same, spreading them out and ensuring that they get food. Due to the lower amount of energy, they are single celled for their entire lives.
