Hexcrawler |
The jedec split from its ancestor, the hexcrawler. As the hexcrawler diversified and individual species specialized, and began to out-compete the hexcrawler, some adapted to consume the numerous carcasses scattered throughout the biome. While this habit was originally limited to species that had already died, it gradually became more aggressive, attacking younger fauna, and eventually adapting a primarily carnivorous diet. Possessing many similar traits to its relatives, including its specialized oral appendages, merged air-tubes, and an upright stance, it also possesses some unique traits that allow it to deal with the challenges posed by a predatory lifestyle.
The majority of its bodily appendages have grown larger, and are used in a long gate efficient in Mason's low gravity, with its back legs moving forward and pushing off, its front legs landing and pulling it forward before its back legs push off again. Two pairs of these, however, have grown smaller and harder, and form a primitive set of jaws, used to tear open the thick, leathery skin of its prey. While it preys almost exclusively on fauna, it will also use its jaws to scrape at the gildrings, which only the closely related provuci relies on otherwise.
